Fragmentation
In the spring of 2021 I worked on three large-scale pieces. As they neared completion I began to get overwhelmed and frustrated with the work. I was tired of pursuing a path that was already determined. However, the act of making had re-ignited something in me and I needed to continue to experiment while I refined the larger works. Fragmentation is what came of that experimentation. These works are small-scale, magnified images of body parts that incorporate the layers from my Grief of an Adolescent series into a cohesive chaos. Where Grief is slow and cathartic, Fragmentation is hurried and textural. This series explores the invisibility of anxiety and depression. While they are mental illnesses, they all too often have very real impacts on the physical body of their carrier.
